Role Debut as Werther at Opéra national de Bordeaux
Benjamin returns to Opéra national de Bordeaux to perform his second role debut of the season, the title role in Massenet’s Werther, adding to his growing list of French repertoire roles. Whilst the tenor is very much looking forward to performing this role on stage for the first time, he is already well acquainted with the opera, having recorded the Act 3 aria ‘Pourquoi me réveiller?’ on his debut album with Deutsche Grammophon in 2019. Bernheim also performed the Act 3 duet with French-Swiss Mezzo, Eve-Maud Hubeaux, as part of a L’instant Lyrique recital series with Antoine Palloc in 2018. This new production is directed by Romain Gilbert and conducted by Maestro Pierre Dumoussaud. Performing alongside Benjamin are Michèle Losier as Charlotte, Lionel Lhote as Albert and Florie Valiquette as Sophie. The show opens on January 31st with additional performances on February 3,6,9 and 12.
